The 2024 Healing Appalachia lineup is HERE. Each year, Hope In The Hills puts on the Healing Appalachia festival that not only highlights the sounds of some of today's hottest artists from the Appalachian scene of country music but also poses a larger mission: bringing light and raising money to combat opioid addiction in the region. As Appalachia struggles to fight against the opioid crisis, the event raises awareness and money for prevention programs in the what is essentially the epicenter of the epidemic. Healing Appalachia's mission statement says it best.
"Like Farm Aid does to raise awareness and funds for America’s small, sustainable family farms, we want to bring together folks to raise funds and awareness to celebrate recovery through our main event, Healing Appalachia, each September, and work year-round on more projects fostering communities of recovery." The festival's larger purpose is important for the community, and the artists who grace the stage also support their cause. This year, the festival announced its stacked lineup for the three-day event, which will take place September 19-21 at the State Fair of West Virginia. Tyler Childers, My Morning Jacket, Sierra Ferrell, Shooter Jennings, Benjamin Tod & Lost Dog Street Band, S.G. Goodman, Sierra Hull, Nolan Taylor, Local Honeys, Will Carlisle, and more are set to perform. Along with the three-day event, the festival is also hosting a free event for the local community on the Wednesday before.
"Similar to last year, we will have a Wednesday event for the local community and those who arrive early (all are welcome) that is 100% FREE. No ticket is needed to enter the free community event on Wednesday evening (more details on this event to be released soon). Since Hope in the Hills is volunteer-run and recovery-based, we aim to keep tickets as affordable as possible so all can come. These artists dedicate their time and talent so funds can be directly distributed to recovery efforts across Appalachia and to cover basic production costs needed to run our festival!" Along with the musical performances, the festival weekend will also feature speeches from those affected by addiction, as well as a variety of organizations providing support and information on addiction, which included a free Naloxone training. Naloxone is used to in medical emergencies to treat an overdose. Hope in the Hills board president Dave Lavender says:
“We can’t wait to gather again to bring folks together using the super-power of music to celebrate recovery month, spread empathy and build communities of healing.” And Hope in the Hills co-founder Charlie Hatcher adds: “We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel just fill the gaps and do what we can.” Since 2023’s “Healing Appalachia” fundraiser, Hope in the Hills has distributed more than $450,000 for recovery efforts in the region. https://www.instagram.com/p/C87Ewl_Ofxf/ Festival tickets and late-night show tickets will go on sale July 9th at 10 a.m. EST.
