WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – With temperatures forecasted to reach the low to mid-90s over the next week, Appalachian Power is taking measures to ensure the safety of its customers and employees.

The company announced that all planned customer outages will be scheduled for the morning hours, before temperatures peak.

Any outages set for later in the day will be canceled if extreme heat persists. Emergency outage work will continue as needed.

During this period of hot weather, air conditioners are expected to work harder to keep homes cool, leading to increased energy use and higher electric bills.

Appalachian Power advises customers to take the following steps to save energy and reduce costs:

    • Keep windows covered during the day to reduce cooling costs.
    • Set thermostats to a higher temperature if health conditions permit.
    • Ensure overhead fans are rotating counterclockwise to push cooler air down.
    • Avoid using heat-producing appliances like ovens, dishwashers, and dryers during the hottest parts of the day.
    • Turn off non-essential lights and equipment.
    • Enroll in the Average Monthly Payment Plan to spread heating and cooling costs throughout the year and avoid weather-related bill spikes.
