Mountain State Spotlight has hired Lauren Hatcher as development officer, filling a key role in the organization’s plans for ambitious growth and financial sustainability that will give West Virginians the journalism they need.
“We are thrilled to add Lauren and her experience and enthusiasm to our team,” Executive Director Sara Crickenberger said. “As we approach our fourth anniversary, it is critical that we are able to financially sustain Mountain State Spotlight to ensure that all West Virginians have access to the news they need to make informed decisions to improve our communities and our state.”
Lauren comes to Mountain State Spotlight with over six years of West Virginia nonprofit communications, engagement and development experience. Prior to joining the organization, Lauren worked closely with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources consulting on the state of child welfare.
“West Virginians want, need and deserve great journalism. And great journalism takes money,” Founding Editor-in-Chief Ken Ward Jr. said. “We’re excited to have Lauren on board to focus on securing that very necessary support to help us grow Mountain State Spotlight for years to come.”
Lauren graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a bachelor’s degree in English and minors in religious studies, sociology, and gender studies.
In her role as development officer, Lauren will weave together the threads of West Virginians’ experiences to encourage funders, grantors and readers that there is potential not only to inform but also to inspire change.
