WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice has announced a State of Emergency for all 55 counties due to a prolonged lack of rainfall that has led to hazardous drought conditions.

The U.S. Drought Monitor indicates that extreme, severe, and moderate drought conditions have affected the entire state. Governor Justice emphasized the impact of the drought on West Virginia farmers, stating, “This drought has been a burden on West Virginia farmers, putting them in danger of losing everything. We cannot and will not stand by and watch our hardworking farmers suffer due to this severe lack of rain. We understand the immense stress and hardship this drought has caused. Currently, our Emergency Management Division is tirelessly working to secure disaster assistance for those in need. In the meantime, we are dedicated to providing all possible support to our agricultural community during this challenging period.”

Governor Justice’s proclamation has activated the Emergency Operations Plan, ensuring that personnel and resources are prepared to respond to any emergencies.

Additionally, specific administrative powers have been granted to the Director of the West Virginia Emergency Management Division to ensure the efficient provision of essential emergency services.

The State of Emergency will be in effect for thirty days unless terminated earlier by another proclamation.
