N.J. Football preview, 2024: A look at Shore Conference Class C South
Many of the teams comprising Shore Conference Class C South have played one another in recent seasons, but 2024 may the year a team long-starved for a divisional championship finally earns one. Another balanced, competitive and unpredictable division, Pinelands and Manchester Township are the favorites, but Barnegat will have a say. Pinelands has been on the upswing since John Tierney became head coach three seasons ago. Now with two massive tackles weighing in at 265 and 295 pounds, an experience and capable quarterback and a workhorse running back, Pinelands could be a step away from getting over the hump. Manchester Township, under the direction of enthusiastic head coach Tom Farrell Jr., also has a 6-foot-6 tackle, a 6-foot-3 tight end and a slinging QB who threw for three yards short of 1,400 yards last season. On the heels of an eight-win campaign, the most in any football season in program history, Manchester also has something else it never had before — expectations. And Barnegat is lurking, waiting to spoil championship hopes of a mistake-prone or overconfident defender. The Bengals have one of the premier defensive players in the Shore Conference in Colgate-bound Cole Toddings, a 1,000-yard rusher and a returning starter at QB of its own.
