Creston School Record 11 Qualifiers for State Wrestling Tournament

(Atlantic) Coming off the Class 2A State Dual Team Championship, Creston qualified 11 wrestlers for the State Tournament at the District meet in Atlantic on Saturday. The 11 qualifiers are a school record, eclipsing the previous school record of nine.
The Panthers won the District team title with 224 points. Atlantic finished second with 143 points, qualified three wrestlers for the State Tournament, and Greene County finished third with 134 points with four state qualifiers. Prairie City, Monroe finished fourth with 112 points and four state qualifiers; Knoxville, fifth, 104, and two state qualifiers; Perry sixth, 85, with two in the state tournament; Saydel, seventh, with 64 and one qualifier, and Van Meter, was eighth with one state qualifier.
Creston Head Coach Cody Downing says this capped off a good week for Creston wrestling after winning the Class 2A State Dual Team Title a week ago.
Atlantic Head Coach Tim Duff commented on his three qualifiers. Taye Jordan (106), Aiden Smith (126), and Evan Sorensen (285).

Senior Taye Jordan (106), wrestling in his first district tournament, earned a spot in the state tournament.
Junior Aiden Smith (126), a two-time state qualifier and runner-up finish one year ago, enters the State Tournament, ranked second with a record of 47-1.
Junior Evan Sorensen qualifies for the State Tourney for the second consecutive season and finished just one place from medaling one year ago.
