(Atlantic) Atlantic School’s Superintendent Dr. Beth Johnsen told the School Board Wednesday night that they are still trying to interpret the new law on attendance.

Dr. Johnsen said she thought the new attendance policy stated that a student is considered chronically absent if they miss 10-percent of the school year, which would be 18 school days. Dr. Johnson said she realized they weren’t interpreting it right after she met with Kathy Hanafan of Green Hills AEA.

Dr. Johnsen said another confusing piece is if a student is 20-percent truant.

    Board President Kristy Pellett…

Dr. Johnsen said they will continue to keep families updated as they interpret this new law.
