Pool Safety Coordinator Chelsie Rush Reports to Atlantic Park Advisory Commission on Wednesday

(Atlantic) During an Atlantic Park Commission meeting, Chelsie Rush, Safety Coordinator, discussed the challenges faced during the previous pool season due to unpredictable weather conditions. Rush suggested that Atlantic Park and Rec consider the successes of the Red Oak pool during future planning sessions. A recent $2.5 million renovation of the Red Oak pool included a one-third-zero-depth entry with toys, a fountain, a giant slide, and other amenities.

Rush highlighted that the City of Red Oak employed around 25 lifeguards, eight attendants, and three pool managers, while Atlantic only staffed ten.

She also mentioned that city pools are primarily community amenities and do not typically generate revenue. Atlantic City Administrator John Lund allocates a specific budget for the pool annually. Rush emphasized the need to decide whether to invest in improvements to increase revenue or maintain the status quo.

Looking ahead, Rush stressed the importance of discussing the future of the outdoor pool and its management. Meanwhile, construction is ongoing for the new Splash Pad project south of the Sunnyside Pool. Concrete pads have already been poured, and additional features are scheduled to arrive next week. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October.
