Vikings Host Big Reds in Homecoming and Celebrates Milestone Anniversary

(Avoca, IA) — Its a busy day in Avoca — AHSTW will celebrate Homecoming and they will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their high school football state championship team. Oh by the way, there is a game too as the Vikings play Missouri Valley, coverage on KSOM.

AHSTW is in need of a win — in fact, they may need to win out this season to make the playoffs after a 28-7 loss to Treynor last week. Head Coach GG Harris says there is no panic, they cannot think about that right now

Luke Sternberg was held to 70 yards rushing last week but the Senior still has 782 for the season. Up front, Senior Kyler Sandbothe had a big game with 15 tackles; he teams with two other seniors Jett Peterson and Henry Lund plus Junior Kaden Jorgensen to give the Vikings a veteran d line

QB Camden Soukop continues to rehab his collarbone injury and Harris hopes to have him back before the regular season is over — in the meantime Sternberg and Freshman Dayton Osbahr are sharing the position and Harris has seen some good and some not so good

The Vikings face a winless Missouri Valley team that has struggled to score points — only 25 in their 5 games and they have been shutout twice.

Big Reds Head Coach Dontae Allen says they have low numbers — there were only 17 players on the team when the season started but they have been able to grow that number to 35 that will suit up tonight. Allen says he is still working on establishing an identity on offense

Allen says they will gear up to stop Sternberg and the Viking running game — that has to be priority number one
