Audubon County Board of Supervisors Hear Proposal for Commercial Compost Facilities

(Audubon Co) Abe Sandquist told the Audubon County Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning that he is looking to do a couple of commercial compost facilities in the County.

He noted that they have to meet all of the DNR requirements.

Sandquist said they are going to design one they are working on in Harrison County and they have a spot located with a landowner in Audubon County.

Supervisors Chair Heath Hansen said this project does meet some of their goals of providing more stable jobs in the area and he said it’s great to have a local source for fertilizer. His concerns included road usage, the location and making sure the smell is mitigated. Sandquist noted that there are no houses close to the property he is interested in and as far as traffic, they could have four to five truckloads a day.

Sandquist will now go through the conditional use permit process to see if he can get the project moving.
