Flash Flood Warning for Adair, Adams, and Cass Counties
(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines issued a Flash Flood Warning for Adair, Northwestern Adams, and Southern Cass Counties until 10:15 a.m. At 4:32, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing between two and four inches of rain across the warned area. This rain is causing flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Sean Kenny Has Been Named Iowa Hawkeyes Pitching Coach
(Iowa City, IA) – Sean Kenny has been appointed as the pitching coach for the University of Iowa Baseball team, bringing 28 years of experience. Previously, he was the pitching coach at the University of Houston for the 2024 season and spent seven years at the University of Georgia. At Houston, Kenny improved the team’s ERA, walks-per-nine innings, strikeout-to-walk ratio, and strikeouts-per-nine innings. During his tenure at Georgia, he helped the team to three NCAA Tournaments, including two as a national seed.
Nebraska’s Reilly and Jackson Earn Gold Medal on U.S. U21 Team
(Lincoln, NE) – The United States U21 National Team was able to take a gold medal at the NORCECA Continental Championship in Canada on Sunday. Both Nebraska’s Bergen Reilly and Andi Jackson helped lead the team alongside Nebraska assistant coach Jaylen Reyes who served as an assistant for the U21 National Team.

Former Adair Police Chief Sentenced to 60 Months in Prison
(Adair) Former Adair Police Chief Brad Wendt was sentenced today to 60 months in prison. According to Federal Court records, upon release, Wendt shall serve a supervised release term of three years. Wendt shall pay a $1,100 special assessment to the Crime Victims’ Fund and shall pay a $50,000.00 fine.
Iowa State Incoming Freshman Dwayne Pierce Stepping Away from Cyclone Program
(Ames, IA) – Iowa State incoming freshman, Dwayne Pierce, has announced that he is stepping away from the Cyclone men’s basketball team for personal reasons. The now-former Cyclone signed on to play at Iowa State on January 22, 2023, and would’ve been entering his first season at Iowa State University. The Christ the King High School player helped to lead his team to a 22-6 overall record and 12-3 in conference play while in high school. According to ESPN, Pierce was ranked with an 82 scout grade as a small forward. He chose Iowa State over other schools including Clemson, Florida State, Illinois, Memphis, and St. John’s.
2024 IHSBCA High School Baseball Week Seven Rankings
(Council Bluffs, IA) – The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association has released its week seven baseball rankings as we head to the end of the 2024 high school baseball regular season. These rankings are determined by a rankings committee headed by IHSAA Assistant Director Andy Umthun and will be utilized by the IHSAA office for postseason assignments to determine state tournament seeding. Our local schools in Class 1A include Logan-Magnolia, Tri-Center, and Woodbine all as honorable mentions. For teams in Class 2A, Des Moines Christian sits at #2, Underwood moves down to #3, Van Meter remains in the top five at #4, and Clarinda stays at their #9 ranking, while Interstate-35 is still ranked as an honorable mention. For Class 3A, North Polk still is #1, Bondurant-Farrar ranks at #9, and Harlan still is listed as an honorable mention. You can find all the rankings below.

Vehicle Damages Gas Pump in Guthrie Center
(Guthrie Co) A vehicle backed into a gas pump in Guthrie Center, causing approximately $50,000 in damage. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Kerry Stonehocker, of Linden, driving a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse, was backing up at the Sparky’s and thought she saw someone in her peripheral vision and accelerated in reverse into the pump to avoid a potential collision.

(Adair Co) The Adair County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Igor Stoyan, of Lincoln, Nebraska, on Friday for OWI 1st Offense. Bond was set at $1,000 cash or surety. The Sheriff’s Office arrested 71-year-old Dennis Devee Buckner, of Fontanelle, on Thursday for Harassment 3rd Degree. Buckner allegedly made comments to a minor female about it being his birthday and asked her if she was going to give him a present, stating “she was just the right age”. Bond was set at $300 cash or surety.
Drug Investigation in Clarinda Nets Two Arrests
(Clarinda) The Clarinda Police Department recently made two arrests in connection with an investigation concerning the distribution of methamphetamine in Clarinda. On Friday afternoon, June 28th, officers arrested 54-year-old Lowell Richard Wilcox, of Clarinda, and 44-year-old Cindy Jo Gray, of New Market. Wilcox and Gray are both charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine, felony possession of methamphetamine and failure to affix drug tax stamps.
