Drug Investigation in Clarinda Nets Two Arrests
(Clarinda) The Clarinda Police Department recently made two arrests in connection with an investigation concerning the distribution of methamphetamine in Clarinda. On Friday afternoon, June 28th, officers arrested 54-year-old Lowell Richard Wilcox, of Clarinda, and 44-year-old Cindy Jo Gray, of New Market. Wilcox and Gray are both charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine, felony possession of methamphetamine and failure to affix drug tax stamps.
Former Hawkeye James Carter Jr. Earns Eighth at U.S. Olympic Trials
(Eugene, OR) – Former Iowa track and field star, James Carter Junior, earned eighth-place at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the men’s triple jump. Carter jumped a total distance of 16.44 meters totalling out to 53′ 11.25″ overall to mark an eighth-place overall finish. The Wisconsin native is a former second-team All-American while at Iowa and has the third-longest triple jump distance in the University of Iowa Track and Field history. His top jump at Iowa was 52-2 1/2, one of the top jumps in Iowa history.

Creston Police Report 3 Arrests
(Creston) Creston Police report three arrests over the weekend, including disorderly conduct, such as fighting and driving while revoked. *On Friday, Police arrested 25-year-old Jonathan Michael Palmer of Creston on Highway 34 and Casey’s for Disorderly Conduct-Fighting/Violent Behavior. Police transported Palmer to the Union County Jail and released him on a $300.00 bond.
One Person Hurt in Dirt Bike Accident in Atlantic
(Atlantic) One person suffered injuries in a pit bike (dirt bike) accident at the Schildberg Campgrounds in Atlantic. The Atlantic Police Department says the accident happened at 6:36 p.m. on Saturday at North Chestnut Street and Iowa Avenue in the grass along the sidewalk of the campgrounds. Hazel Clark, of Calhoun, Louisiana, sustained a head injury in the crash. According to the report, the dirt bike tire caught the concrete, ejecting Clark from the vehicle. Cass EMS transported Clark to the Cass County Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Red Oak Police Report 2 Arrests
(Red Oak) Red Oak Police arrested two men on alcohol-related charges over the weekend. Police arrested 21-year-old Jose Hunter Portales of Red Oak on Sunday in the 1400 block of N. 4th Street for OWI, 1st Offense. Officers transported Portales to the Montgomery County Jail and held him on a $1,000 bond. In a separate case, Red Oak Police arrested 40-year-old Michael Scott Stafford of Red Oak in the 600 block of N. 5th Street for OWI, 2nd Offense. Police transported him to the Montgomery County Jail and held him on a $2,000 bond.

New Iowa THC Law Set To Go In Place Today Regarding Potency Levels
(Des Moines, IA) — A new law in Iowa regulating THC in products takes effect today. The law caps the amount of THC allowed per serving and container. It requires products with THC to be labeled with health risk advisories and prohibits individuals under 21 from purchasing such products. The Department of Health and Human Services will establish rules related to packaging and labeling, with guidelines expected to be finalized after the law takes effect.
Evan Bowman Obituary
Evan Joseph Bowman, age 15, from Lakehills Texas, passed away on March 18th, 2024, at University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Atlantic, Iowa at Cass County Memorial Hospital on May 20th, 2008, to Melinda (Mindy) and David (Dave) Bowman. He was baptized at Faith Lutheran Church in Griswold, Iowa in 2008. The family moved to Divide, Colorado in 2008. They moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2013 where he attended elementary school at Henderson Elementary. The family moved one more time to Lakehills, Texas in 2017, where he attended Hill Country Elementary. He attended Zion Lutheran Church in Helotes, Texas and was a Sophomore at Bandera High School in Bandera, Texas.

Polk County Crash Claims Two Lives
(Polk County) Two people died in a single-vehicle crash in Polk County. The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 7:20 a.m. on Saturday on eastbound Interstate 80 near the 134-mile marker. Authorities say the driver, 65-year-old William L. Engel, and his passenger, 58-year-old Rose A. Engel, both from Cookville, Texas, died in the crash.

Former Adair Police Chief to be Sentenced Today
(Des Moines) Sentencing for former Adair Police Chief Brad Wendt is today. In February, a Federal grand convicted Wendt of conspiracy to make false statements to the ATF, eight counts of making a false statement to the ATF, and illegal possession of a machine gun. A sentencing report noted that Wendt exploited his position to buy and sell machine guns for himself and his friends, all for their personal use.
