COUNTY DIRECTOR OF FLOOD MITIGATION AND RESILIENCY
In an ongoing effort to address the increasing impact of flooding and severe weather storms on residents, businesses and infrastructure in Westchester, the County Department of Planning has hired a director of Flood Mitigation and Resiliency. Dean Tarulli, formerly of the New York State Office of Storm Recovery and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has joined Westchester County government to help develop and manage flood prevention and mitigation projects, as well as look at ways to maximize state and federal funding in communities plagued with flooding issues.

BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court keeps abortion drug mifepristone available
The U.S. Supreme Court this morning announced it has decided on a 9-0 vote not to restrict the availability of the abortion drug mifepristone. The court ruled that the pro-life forces that filed suit to block availability of the drug did not have the standing to bring their action and did not show that they had been harmed by the availability of the drug. The pro-life groups challenged the decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to make the drug widely available. It is used in approximately two-thirds of the abortions carried out in the U.S. Pro-choice forces had feared that the Supreme Court would restrict availability of the drug in the wake of its overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The Bulldog Walking Gallery, last year’s hugely successful public sculpture installation, has returned to downtown Irvington. Starting now through September, no fewer than 26 creatively decorated, fiberglass bulldogs — each representing Irvington’s beloved mascot — will be displayed on the town’s Main Street. “Last year’s Bulldog Walking Gallery was a real talking point, with thousands of locals and visitors admiring the colorful sculptures,” Kristina Schmidt, the artist and small-business owner behind the project, said. “Once again, we are bringing the community together and adding that extra special charm to our village.”
