GOP convention: Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J. D. Vance of Ohio spoke to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last night. Vance blamed President Biden for what he saw as a country that’s in trouble. Vance said that Biden has championed every policy that made America weaker and poorer. The Republican delegates gave a standing ovation to former Trump White House aide Peter Navarro who went to the convention immediately after being released from federal prison yesterday where he had served a sentence for contempt of Congress. Former Trump campaign aides Paul Manafort and Roger Stone, both of whom received pardons from Trump for their crimes, also were at the convention.
1881 Kitchen Table debuts in Port Chester
With artistic and global influences, 1881 Kitchen Table makes its debut in Port Chester Thursday, July 18, in a historic space that is designed to offer a distinct experience. Owner and Harrison resident Jennifer Livne said of the building, which dates from 1881, “(My husband) Udi and I are passionate about this historic property and fell in love with the potential of the building. We wanted to preserve yet modernize the space for everyone in the area to experience something unique. We teamed up with a true artist of food (chef Frank Azulay) and artist of drink (Julio Enriquez) to help us build an exceptional experience off the canvas we designed, where the food and drink will come to life when it hits the table.”
Dispersing funds for those in need
Western Connecticut Association for Human Rights, WeCAHR, recently presented a $30,000 donation to Christine Lai, executive Director of Special Education Legal Fund. WeCAHR, formed in 1977 and closed on June 30, 2023, provided direct and indirect advocacy for individuals with disabilities and their families in the Greater Danbury area. It serviced all ages, disabilities and socioeconomic groups. Throughout its existence, WeCAHR collaborated with community organizations, developed valuable partnerships with government agencies and championed the rights of people with disabilities.

State of emergency declared after severe weather hits upstate; threat for Westchester
The National Weather Service today issued an alert for between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. for the possibility of thunderstorms that may be severe with damaging winds and heavy rainfall. The Weather Service also forecast continuing heat index values in the 90s for today and an 80% chance of rain. The Westchester weather, however, was not expected to reach the scale of what impacted areas in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley, including the City of Rome and areas in Madison County, where one or more tornadoes were believed to have touched down.

Mamaroneck condo owners sue to stop rental surcharge
Owners of several apartments in the Continental View Condominium in Mamaroneck have sued the condo board for imposing a $1,800 annual fee on owners who rent their apartments. Eleven owners of eight apartments accused the board of exceeding its authority by enacting a new house rule without obtaining approval by two-thirds of the owners, in a complaint filed on July 9 in Westchester Supreme Court.
