NEW YORK SPECIAL NARCOTICS PROSECUTOR TAPPED FOR LAW SCHOOL AWARD
The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains, New York, will bestow in September the 2024 Robert S. Tucker Prize for Prosecutorial Excellence on Bridget G. Brennan, New York City’s special narcotics prosecutor, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of criminal prosecution and excellence in prosecutorial practice.
GROUNDBREAKING COLLABORATION REAPS BENEFITS
Thanks to a groundbreaking collaboration with Blythedale Children’s Hospital, Stepinac High School’s Susan and Daniel P. Mahoney ‘67 Honors Academy students developed a proposed assistive technology (AT) innovation to help improve the quality of life for a medically fragile 10-year-old patient. They presented their innovation at the academy’s recent sixth annual symposium.
REFLECTION ON FIRST 100 DAYS
STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way, a 72-year-old Norwalk-based nonprofit serving neighbors whose lives are impacted by intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently announced that the first 100 days under the leadership of its new Executive Director MaryGrace Giuliano has been successful and impactful. The announcement was made by Meghan Cioffi, president of STAR Board of Directors. “The Search Committee was impressed with MaryGrace throughout the interview process and the entire board concurred that she is the right leader with all the competencies and compassion to preserve STAR’s legacy and to continue STAR’s successful rise into the future. During this period, MaryGrace has demonstrated exceptional dedication and vision, steering the organization toward new heights and reinforcing our commitment to our mission.”
Professional soccer team to base at Mount Vernon stadium
Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, which in Sept. 2022 was reopened after a $40 million rehabilitation, will be home to a professional soccer team, Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard and the Westchester Soccer Club announced. The Soccer Club plans for its professional men’s team to begin playing there with the 2025 season. It says it would like to develop a women’s professional team in the future.

Priceline, the Norwalk-based travel booking website and service provider, announced on June 13 that it has elected to name PHD its new media agency of record. PHD is based in the United Kingdom and is part of the global Omincom Group and is among the most awarded agencies in the world with recognitions from around the planet.
COUNTY DIRECTOR OF FLOOD MITIGATION AND RESILIENCY
In an ongoing effort to address the increasing impact of flooding and severe weather storms on residents, businesses and infrastructure in Westchester, the County Department of Planning has hired a director of Flood Mitigation and Resiliency. Dean Tarulli, formerly of the New York State Office of Storm Recovery and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has joined Westchester County government to help develop and manage flood prevention and mitigation projects, as well as look at ways to maximize state and federal funding in communities plagued with flooding issues.

BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court keeps abortion drug mifepristone available
The U.S. Supreme Court this morning announced it has decided on a 9-0 vote not to restrict the availability of the abortion drug mifepristone. The court ruled that the pro-life forces that filed suit to block availability of the drug did not have the standing to bring their action and did not show that they had been harmed by the availability of the drug. The pro-life groups challenged the decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to make the drug widely available. It is used in approximately two-thirds of the abortions carried out in the U.S. Pro-choice forces had feared that the Supreme Court would restrict availability of the drug in the wake of its overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Biden in Italy: President Biden is in Italy for the G7 Summit. He’s was to participate in an official meeting with Prime Minister Meloni of Italy, who is hosting the G7 Summit. Biden’s schedule called for participation in four sessions of the G7 then an event in the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment. The evening schedule included signing a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine and holding a joint press conference with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine. The G7 members decided to lend to Ukraine $50 billion of frozen Russian assets.

The Bulldog Walking Gallery, last year’s hugely successful public sculpture installation, has returned to downtown Irvington. Starting now through September, no fewer than 26 creatively decorated, fiberglass bulldogs — each representing Irvington’s beloved mascot — will be displayed on the town’s Main Street. “Last year’s Bulldog Walking Gallery was a real talking point, with thousands of locals and visitors admiring the colorful sculptures,” Kristina Schmidt, the artist and small-business owner behind the project, said. “Once again, we are bringing the community together and adding that extra special charm to our village.”

Broken pipe steams up White Plains condo owner
An elderly, disabled resident of a White Plains condominium is ignoring the dictum that you can’t fight city hall. Marva Ann Parker, 85, and her caretaker, Sandra Richardson, petitioned Westchester Supreme Court on May 31 to compel the White Plains building department to inspect a broken steam pipe in her apartment at The Wellington on Main Street.
