It’s never too early for an eldercare financial plan
Eldercare has increasingly become a topic of interest and concern nationally, at the state level and among families worldwide. Projections by the United States Census Bureau (USCB) show that around 20% of the U.S. population will be over 65 years old by the year 2030. This is more than a 4% increase from the current ratio within the same age bracket. Eventually these baby boomers, currently helping their parents, will have their own eldercare scenarios.

New York state’s KeyBank has received Lifting Up Westchester’s 2024 Corporate Citizenship Award in recognition of the bank’s support to the nonprofit organization’s Job Central facility with funding through KeyBank Foundation and with financial literacy resources to Job Central’s clients. The award was presented to KeyBank Market President John Manginelli on May 16 at the nonprofit’s 2024 Gala held at the Glen Island Harbor Club in New Rochelle.

GOLF TOURNAMENT HELPS FUND FORWARD-LOOKING INITIATIVES
New York Medical College (NYMC) hosted its fourth annual Golf Tournament and Reception June 17, sponsored by the NYMC Board of Advisors at the Saint Andrew’s Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. More than 175 attendees, including NYMC leadership, friends, supporters and Westchester leaders enjoyed the day of golf followed by a dinner reception and awards ceremony.

Children’s Learning Centers of Fairfield County (CLC) held its eighth annual Golf Outing on May 30 with a full field of golfers and supporters at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich. One of CLC’s signature events, the golf outing, was chaired by Bob Rahilly, a member of CLC’s Leadership Council and a partner at Day Pitney LLP. The sold-out golf outing raised over $150,000.
New Rochelle man penalized for defrauding investors
A New Rochelle man has to pay up nearly $700,000 for defrauding fellow members of a religious group. U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Karas ordered Evarist C. Amah on June 25 to disgorge $11,618 in ill-gotten gains and pay a $669,687 penalty for violating securities laws. He also found it necessary to permanently restrain Amah from violating securities laws.
Northwell Health opens $3M orthopedic facility in Tarrytown
Northwell Health has opened Northwell Orthopedics at Tarrytown in a $3 million 6,400-square-foot facility located at 658 White Plains Road. There are 12 exam rooms and in-office X-ray imaging capabilities. Physicians at the Tarrytown site will provide surgical and non-surgical care across many orthopedic subspecialties including joints, spine, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, and sports medicine.
Rent Guidelines Board approves increases; BRI officials react
The Westchester County Rent Guidelines Board on a vote of 6-1 has approved rent increases of 2.5% for one-year leases and 3.5% for two-year leases starting October 1 for rent-controlled buildings. The board announced plans to schedule another public meeting to be held in September at which time it expects to certify the new rent guidelines for rent-stabilized leases.

Debate takeaways: Last night’s televised presidential debate will be remembered for Donald Trump’s persistent lying about everything from his description of Capitol police welcoming the mob on Jan. 6 to there being no inflation during his administration even though it was about 6%. It also will be remembered for President Biden failing to duplicate his strong performance in the State of the Union speech. White House staffers said Biden had a cold, but that didn’t explain the numerous stumbles in his delivery and use of incorrect words such as saying billions when he meant to say millions.
Vassar begins construction of $27.5M Admission and Career Education Center
Work is underway on The Dede Thompson Bartlett Center for Admission and Career Education at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. The $27.5 million building will house expanded offices for college admissions as well as providing a place for students to learn about and work on executing the transition from college to the working world. The new building was designed by Maryann Thompson whose architectural firm is based in Watertown, Massachusetts.
Governor Ned Lamont to work from home after testing positive for Covid
Julia Bergman, Governor Ned Lamont’s Director of Media Relations and Chief Spokesperson issued the following statement on June 27 around 2PM:. “Yesterday afternoon, Governor Lamont was feeling slightly under the weather and out of an abundance of caution he decided to take an at-home COVID test, and the result came back positive. He is feeling fine other than a couple of mild symptoms. During these last couple of days, he has not been in the office, nor has he been in close physical proximity with any staff or state officials because he had been taking previously scheduled time out of the office. He has notified those he recently came into close contact with regarding his test result and he has encouraged them to take tests, as well. He’s informed his staff that they can expect him to work remotely for the time being.”

Yonkers school bus stop camera program yields 18k violations worth $4.5M since launch
“The numbers are truly staggering, especially for drivers rendered with second and third offenses,” Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano said today about the camera program designed to catch drivers who violate the law by passing stopped school buses. Yonkers signed on with the company Verra Mobility to equip school buses used by the city’s school district with cameras to photograph and identify vehicles illegally passing stopped buses that have their stop signs that are on swing-out arms extended. Yonkers and Verra Mobility split 50/50 the proceeds from the fines collected from motorists.
