Americares, the health-focused relief and development organization, has welcomed Chandrashekar V.S. as director of Americares India. In his new role, Chandrashekar, known personally and professionally as Chandra, is responsible for designing, implementing and directing innovative health programs that strengthen health systems and expand access to care for people affected by poverty or disaster across 23 states in India. Chandra is also tasked with leading the country’s emergency response activities, implementing climate and disaster resilience initiatives, managing a highly successful mobile clinic program for low-income urban residents and an extensive health facility upgrade program. At the same time, he oversees the operation of the Americares India distribution center.

(CNN) — Justin Timberlake was arraigned on one count of driving while intoxicated and released from police custody in New York, according to his attorney. According to police, the singer was observed around 12:37 a.m. Tuesday morning “operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition,” in Sag Harbor, New York. Timberlake was driving a 2025 BMW when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and failed to maintain in his lane of travel, a statement from Sag Harbor Police reads.
Bathroom bills balloon on Dutchess project
A Dutchess County man claims that a $500,000 home building project ballooned to nearly $1 million when a contractor botched the job and created bogus reports to conceal fraud. Andrew Jarecki, of Pine Plains, accused contractor Domingo Manongsong of fraud, in a complaint filed in U.S. District Court, White Plains on June 10.
Stratford Army Engine Plant demolition slated for autumn
According to a report in the CTPost by Richard Chumney, demolition of the former engine factory near Sikorsky Memorial Airport is slated to begin in the fall. The site was once used to produce engines for the legendary Vought F4U Corsair which played an important role in the Pacific Theater of World War II, but is now known for decrepit buildings and extensive contamination.

Russia-North Korea pact: Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jung Un today signed a new agreement that they said raises Russian and North Korean cooperation to a new level. The new strategic partnership replaces previous agreements signed in 1962, 2000 and 2001. Putin said that the pact includes mutual assistance in event either Russia or North Korea is attacked. He also said that the pact covers political, trade, investment and culture.

$37.9M rehab underway on 212 affordable units in Ulster
Beacon Communities, a housing developer with offices in Boston, Pittsburgh, New York City, Buffalo and Albany has started work on a project funded with $37.9 million from New York state that will upgrade and preserve a total of 212 affordable housing units in Ulster County. There are three properties involved: 60 units at The Birches at Saugerties; 80 units at Birchwood Village in Kingston; and 72 units at Chambers Senior Housing in the Town of Ulster. Beacon owns and will continue to manage the properties. An event marking the start of the rehabilitation work was held at Chambers Senior Housing.
IMMIGRANT EMPOWERMENT CAMPAIGN DRIVES COMMONSENSE SOLUTIONS
Close to 400 supporters, donors, volunteers and community members gathered on May 30 at the GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills for “Festival de Primavera,” the Neighbors Link annual spring benefit. More than $735,000 was raised at the event, which featured the announcement of a new Immigrant Empowerment Campaign designed to fill significant resource gaps for immigrants across the Hudson Valley. The campaign, to date, has raised $5.5 million toward an $8.5 million fundraising goal.
Iona University’s Institute for Thomas Paine Studies receives $1 million gift

Marsh Sanctuary challenges Mt. Kisco solar project
Marsh Sanctuary and nearby homeowners claim that the Village of Mount Kisco has illegally spot zoned a parcel to allow construction of a massive solar power plant. The sanctuary, six homeowners and Mount Kisco Chase Homeowners Association asked Westchester Supreme Court to nullify a new Solar Law that would allow the power plant to be built, in a complaint filed on June 10.

They pick up the bacteria the first time they feed from mice and then pass it along to other animals and humans. The LymeShield product is designed to help break the cycle, as it contains food pellets for mice that include a vaccine against Lyme disease, so that the mice cannot spread the infection to ticks. The pellets are harmless to other animals, and no pesticides are used.
