WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Paris Olympics kick off this week and some local gymnasts are ready to see their favorite athletes compete.

Many aspiring Olympians at Roots Gymnastics Center in Westfield are eagerly anticipating the start of the Olympics this Friday. These young girls tell 22News, that they will be rooting for the USA team and cheering them on every step of the way. They will be closely watching the performances of seven-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles and other top gymnasts. Adding, they hope to one day follow in their footsteps, and represent their country on the world stage.

“A lot of younger gymnasts look up to Simone, especially because, I mean, she’s like the name,” said gymnast, Tessa Burke. “When you think of gymnastics, it’s the Simone Biles. And they’ve just she’s the one you look up to.”

“She sets the standard each year. And you you don’t think the standard can be set more, but for somehow keep setting the standard higher every single year,” added gymnast, Angelina Osicki.

Twelve teams will compete in Paris for both men and women. This year, two male gymnasts from Massachusetts will compete on Team USA, one from Worcester and one from Stoughton.
