WESTFIELD – A house explosion and three-alarm fire rocked a town neighborhood Monday night.

Around 10:16 p.m. Westfield firefighters responded to a one-story home on Tudor Oval on report of a fire and explosion. Upon arrival, firefighters saw an active fire with evidence of an explosion, Westfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Robert Sawicki said.

The house was vacant at the time of the fire, he said.

Westfield police evacuated the nearby houses as the fire raged to three alarms.

The fire was put out in a little over an hour and no injuries were reported, Sawicki said.

Firefighters from surrounding towns helped with the response, working into the early morning hours.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, Sawicki said.
