New board president Andrew Weikel presided over the Westhoff ISD School Board meeting on Thursday, April 18, where the board took action to maximize investments, update compliance roles and approve retention bonuses.

Interim Superintendent James Stansberry recommended moving the various investment accounts, which currently get 2% interest, to either TexPool or Lone Star Surplus, which receive 5.31%. The change would gain the district around $23,000 more a month.

“By July,” Stansberry said, “my salary would be paid with no extra cost.”

The board approved the movement of current accounts to new accounts with TexPool.

In other business, Stansberry outlined items in need of updates for state compliance. A new pest control auditor and 504/ADA coordinator were approved. Stansberry will fill the role of Title IX Coordinator. The board also approved the Instructional Materials Survey, next year’s school calendar and policies on file.

Finally, the board also approved the Retention and End of Year Incentives for teachers and aides: $2,000 for teachers and $1,000 for aides. They also included two permanent substitute teachers in the incentives. Two teaching positions need to be filled. In executive session, the board discussed personnel matters.
