UMBWMC Ranked #5 Hospital in Area by US News & World Report
The University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC), a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), is ranked #5 in the state of Maryland and the Baltimore Metro area on U.S. News & World Report’s 2024-2025 Best Hospital’s list, released today. The hospital was also rated High Performing for the care it provides in eight common procedures: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, lung cancer surgery and pneumonia.

Maryland U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin (D - 8th District) called the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump "a grave assault on our democracy" in his opening remarks at a contentious U.S. House of Representatives committee questioning of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle this morning. Cheatle faced heated questioning from members of both political parties seeking answers to security failures at the July 13, 2024 Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump and two rally attendees were wounded in the shooting, and a third attendee was killed. It was the first attempted assassination of a current or former U.S. President since 1981.

Maryland woman, dual organ donor advocates for bill to give tax break to donors

Coast Guard searching for missing mariner near Deal Island
DEAL ISLAND, Md. – The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a 56-year-old man who reportedly fell overboard off a 47-foot commercial fishing vessel near Deal Island on Tuesday. We’re told watchstanders received the report from Somerset County Dispatch at around 8:30 a.m., stating that a mariner had fallen overboard two miles west of Deal Island. The mariner was last seen wearing blue and orange waders and gray boots.
