Children flocked to the vendor area at the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster Tuesday for face painting, a magic show, music, a petting zoo and sidewalk chalk, all meant to teach them more about agriculture and farming.
It was the 127th Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair’s annual Children’s Day, when children and their parents are welcome to wander the fair, stopping to get their faces painted, pet a calf, goat, pig or pony, and watch the Agricadabra and Hypnosis Show, Cowboy Circus and Hot Dog Pig Races.
Sweta Sharma, of Sykesville, and her daughter, Rhea, 5, stopped at the petting zoo and the Agricadabra and Hypnosis Show.
Sharma, who attended the fair as a way to spend the day with her daughter, said the magic show was “amazing.”
“The magic show was very engaging for all the kids of all age groups and also the parents,” she said.
Judy Southworth, of Westminster, takes her two granddaughters, Vivian, 5 and Georgia, 3, to the fair every year. The girls raise chickens at their home in Finksburg, and Southworth said it is important for them to learn about agriculture and farming.
“I feel these are missed and forgotten things in their lives and it’s important to be able to learn about this area, especially with farming [being] as a big a business as it is,” she said.
The Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair runs through Aug. 2 at the Carroll County Agriculture Center at 706 Agriculture Center Drive in Westminster. For more information and the schedule of events, visit carrollcountyfair.com .
