A former Westwego cop is facing charges after state police say he performed unauthorized vehicle inspections.

State troopers say Leroy Victoriano took inspection affidavits from Louisiana State Police headquarters without authorization from his superiors at the Westwego Police Department while making a run to LSP headquarters to pick up supplies for the WPD. Investigators say Victoriano then performed car inspections on the black market, charging $25 for the service--$15 less than the WPD's $40-dollar inspection charge.

State troopers say Victoriano conducted more than 3,400 inspections between June 2023 and the present, profiting more than $100,000 off of those inspections.

Victoriano is now facing theft, malfeasance in office, money laundering, and filing false public records charges. The Westwego Police Department put Victoriano on administrative leave upon his arrest, at which time Victoriano resigned.

    The case remains under investigation.
