$20 Million Upgrade On Tap For Towers
When winds blow in from the Sound, windows sometimes pop open at the Towers senior complex. Now $20 million is blowing in to replace windows, roofs, and HVAC systems. The $20 million comes from a grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Green and Resilient Retrofit Program (GRRP), which supports climate resilience and utility efficiency upgrades.
I-91 temporarily halted in Hartford to let a family of ducks cross
If you were stuck in rush hour traffic near Hartford on Monday, it may be for a fowl reason. Ashley Gentner of Plainville posted a video to TikTok of a family of ducks - what appears to be a mother and four ducklings - stranded in the middle of I-91 on the north side of Hartford.
Annawan and Wethersfield Students Attend the College for Kids Program at Black Hawk College
Black Hawk College recently hosted its 44th annual College for Kids program, welcoming gifted students from grades 6–9 at the Quad-Cities Campus in Moline from July 15th–19th. Notable among the participants were Iyla Anderson and Anna Nordstrom from Annawan, as well as Jalie Nichols and Jorrie Miskinis from Wethersfield. These students joined their peers in a diverse curriculum, choosing from 30 available classes spanning arts, languages, sciences, and more. A highlight was the popular “What Career Is Right for Me?” class, aimed at guiding young talents toward potential future careers based on their interests and abilities. Police charge three in Kayla Wright murder
NEWPORT — The man police say shot and killed Kayla Wright, a 29-year-old Derby woman, last February is scheduled to be arraigned on a charge of first-degree murder on July 30. Two other men have already pled innocent to charges of helping to dispose of Ms. Wright’s body by placing it in a toolbox and throwing into the Missisquoi River.
Greater Hartford Children's Reading Literacy Programs Merge
United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut and Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford have announced the merger of their volunteer youth reading programs. Effective immediately, Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford’s Children’s Reading Partners Program will join forces with United Way’s existing United Way Readers program. The summer transition will allow United Way to absorb and amplify the strengths of both programs, setting the stage for a strong beginning this upcoming fall, according to officials of the two organizations.
