    Edison hoops falls in overtime, despite 30 points from Littlefield

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Edison and Odessa-Montour girls basketball fall in sectionals.

    Edison and Odessa-Montour girls hoops both fell in the first round of Section IV tournament action. The Spartans fell to Sidney in a thrilling overtime clash in Class B. The exciting finish to the playoff matchup closed with Edison’s Charlee Stroman and Sidney’s Isabella Conroy exchanging 3 pointers for lead, in the final seconds. With 19 seconds remaining Payton Littlefield tied the score at the free throw line, eventually sending the game to overtime. In the extra frame, Edison burst to the lead with a drive from Littlefield.

    Despite the effort, the Sabers pulled away with baskets from Ava Cirigliano and Nayla Miley. At the final buzzer, Sidney took the win 67-62, and Cirigliano had a game-high 36 points. In their final game with Edison, seniors Gabby Milazzo scored 15 points, while Harper Hoffman added 8. Edison’s all-time scoring leader, Payton Littlefield closed out her Spartans career with a 30 point night.

    In Class D, Odessa-Montour fell to Stamford/Jefferson 50-43 at home. Gina Gavich and 8th grader Leah Antes each scored 18 for the Grizzlies. In the PIAA District IV playoffs, Wyalusing advanced in Class AA, while Athens and North Penn-Mansfield saw their seasons end. In the Section V boys tournament, Addison advanced past Williamson. In Class B1, Haverling fell to Waterloo despite 41 points from Jake Hagadone and 20 from Austin Durand.
