ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Avoca-Prattsburgh boys basketball continued their dominance in the state tournament.

The Avoca-Prattsburgh boys basketball team cruised past Pine Valley to win their 3rd straight NYSPHSAA Regional title, on Saturday. The Titans rolled to a 75-47 win, to return to the state semis in Class D. The effort was led by 21 points from J.J. Crowder and 18 from Daniel Stinson. Additionally, Macoy Putnam and Chris Abbott both added 15. Avoca-Prattsburgh will now move on to the semifinal round, where they will meet the winner of Harrisville and Sackets Harbor Central. The Saturday morning (10:45a.m.) matchup at the Cooling Insurance Arena will give the Titans a shot to reach the championship for the 3rd straight season, and defend their back-to-back titles.

In the PIAA 1st round, the Troy boys basketball team’s impressive run came to a close. The Trojans fell to Trinity 79-75, in overtime. Back in New York on the girls side, Hornell and Dundee/Bradford each saw their NYSPHSAA tournament runs end. Dundee/Bradford dropped a back-and-forth battle with Frewsburg 75-67. Prior to the BraveScots game at Finger Lakes Community College, the Red Raiders fell to Southwestern in heartbreaking fashion. Southwestern erased an 18 point deficit and tied the game in the 4th quarter. The teams traded the lead in the final minutes of the contest, before Southwestern’s Reece Beaver scored her 42nd point of the game with 12 seconds to go. With 2 seconds remaining, Hornell would not be able to complete an inbounds pass which ended the game. Reagan Evingham led the Red Raider effort with 20 points.
