Elmira College baseball cruises past Keuka in home opener

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) – Elmira College baseball picked up a dominant win for their home opener.

Windy and cold weather did not stop Elmira College baseball from a big win in their 2024 home debut. The Soaring Eagles defeated Keuka College 11-1 in 7 innings at the Holding Point Recreation Center. The big day at the plate was kicked-off by Union-Endicott grad Gabe Fellows, who blasted a 3-run home run in 2nd. EC would follow up with a run in each of the next 3 frames. In the 6th, Matteo Salvati and Elmira’s Erik Charnetski extended the purple and gold’s lead to 8-1 on a fielder’s choice and sac fly. The scoring continued with AJ Ramirez’s RBI-triple.

In the 7th, Brett Warden doubled to bring Elmira College within 1 run of winning by mercy rule. Salvati followed up, reaching on an error and allowing Warden to score the winning tally.

The EC stat book was led by Warden’s 3 doubles, 2 RBI, and 2 runs. Additionally, A.J. Ramirez was perfect at the plate with 2 triples, an RBI, and a run. Of local note, Elmira’s Charnetski had a hit and RBI. Savona native Kaden Bolt went (2-5) and scored twice, while Horseheads’ Ian Ruhmel manned right field for Keuka College. On the mound, EC’s Jack Finnerty improved to 3-0 on the season, tossing a 3-hit, 8 strikeout, complete game.

Elmira College stays at home for 2 more contests against the Wolves, on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. with game 2 following.
