Chemung County replaces traffic signals

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Chemung County is in the process of replacing traffic signals around the Elmira, Elmira Heights, and Horseheads areas.

According to the Chemung County Department of Public Works, the county is replacing seven traffic signals for the first phase of its Traffic Signal Project. The new signals will follow current standards for vehicles and pedestrians.

The signals at the following intersections are being replaced:

• Chambers Road and Arnot Road (Signal #7)
• Chambers Road and the Arnot Mall Entrance (Signal #8)
• Upper Oakwood Avenue and Grand Central Avenue (Signal #10)
• Fairview Road and Lake Road (Signal #11)
• East 14th Street and Lake Road (Signal #12)
• East McCanns Boulevard and Lake Road (Signal #13)
• Pennsylvania Avenue and Cedar Street (Signal #16)

The Traffic Signal Project is estimated to cost a total of $2,178,135.93. The cost includes the design, construction, and inspection processes. The federal government is reimbursing the county for 80% of the project cost, and the state government is reimbursing 15% of the cost.
