City of Elmira completes city manager performance review

ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) — The City of Elmira announced on Friday that it has completed its performance review for City Manager, Michael Collins, after reinstatement by the council in January.

According to a release by the city, on Thursday, May 2, the city council met in executive session to discuss a performance review regarding Collins and received a positive report.

At the time of completion, the review had gone more than a month over the original 90-day period that the council had to complete the review, with Mayor Dan Mandell telling 18 News on Thursday that the review was still ongoing.

The city said the committee received input from city council members, department heads, citizens, and city manager Collins regarding the review.

The city closed by saying this concludes the mandated review process initiated during a special session on Jan. 1.

The city did not mention who was on the city manager evaluation committee, what was specified in the input, if the committee had to take a vote to complete the review, or what criteria were looked at for the review.

18 News reached out to Mayor Mandell for further comment on these questions but hasn’t heard back as of the publishing of this article.
