    Milling and paving project set to begin in Elmira next week

    ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) – The City of Elmira Department of Public Works has announced an upcoming milling and paving project that is set to begin next Monday in Elmira.

    The milling process will begin on Monday, May 13, and will continue through Tuesday, May 14. This work is subject to change based on weather and the availability of contracted equipment.

    During this time, residents should be aware that portions of Davis Street will be closed to accommodate the work.

    On Monday, Davis Street will be closed from Washington Avenue to Roe Avenue, and on Tuesday, Davis Street will be closed from Roe Avenue to Mary Street.

    Residents are asked to have all vehicles removed from their driveways and off the street by 6 a.m. if they plan on leaving for the day. They are advised to park on the nearest side street.

    Final paving of the streets will take place on May 16 and 17, weather permitting. In the case of rain, paving will be moved to the following day.

    Residents will be asked to move their vehicles again during this time.

    All impacted streets will be reopened when milling and paving are completed, as well as the days when milling ends and paving begins.

    All residents and businesses that will be affected by the project will be notified by crews before milling and paving takes place. Drivers are encouraged to drive carefully through the work zones and give themselves extra time during their travels.
