Big Fish Summer – Lance Blakemore’s giant blue marlin

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A Horseheads fisherman earned the catch of a lifetime.

Local dairy farmer Lance Blakemore caught this massive blue marlin off of the coast of Maryland just last weekend. The 897.5 pound marlin won the blue marlin category in the 2024 White Marlin Open. The boat used, called the Stone Cutter, is owned and captained by Blakemore’s brother-in-law, Paul Menzi.

Also in the photo is Paul’s father, Bill Menzi. In all, the marlin measured a staggering 129 inches long. As kind gesture, all meat was donated to a local food bank. Blakemore’s incredible catch is one of the all-time greats we have ever seen on 18 Sports’ Big Fish Summer to date presented by Valley Wholesale Bait and Tackle.
