HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) – A local fisherman reflects on the biggest catch of his life.

Lance Blakemore, a Horseheads dairy farmer, caught a blue marlin weighing close to 900 pounds at the annual White Marlin Fish Contest in Maryland. It won the blue marlin division and is now registered as the fifth largest fish ever to be caught in that competition.

For Blakemore, who owns Sleepers Ridge Dairy Farm, it was a moment he’ll cherish forever.

“By far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life,” Blakemore said. “It was a two and half hour battle that you don’t really understand the power and the strength that you’re up against.”

Blakemore added that it was truly a family accomplishment bringing in the monster fish.

“Extremely fortunate, my brother-in-law Paul he has fished that tournament for 28 years,” said Blakemore. “For him to invite me to come down and be a part of his team was a dream come true.”
