Hornell man arrested on attempted murder/weapons charges after domestic incident

HORNELL, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A Hornell man is behind bars after police said he shot at another man during an incident on Saturday.

According to police, 33-year-old Michael E. Bloom was arrested on Saturday, Aug. 17, on the following charges:

• Attempted murder in the second degree.
• Criminal use of a firearm in the first degree.
• Criminal contempt in the first degree: violating order of protection.
• Two counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree,
• Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree with previous conviction.

Police said that on Saturday Bloom violated an order of protection against his ex-girlfriend and shot at a man while he was outside the back of a home on Rockwell Street in Hornell.

Police said that the man was the ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend and that Bloom shot three or four small caliber shots from a vehicle parked on Hart Street toward the back of the house on Rockwell Street. After taking the shots, police said that witnesses saw the vehicle speed off away from the scene.

Police said there were no injuries from the shooting but a parked vehicle was damaged when a bullet hit the back window of a pickup truck.

Bloom was later found and arrested on the charges above and taken to the Steuben County Jail.
