LANSING, N.Y. (WETM) – Lansing’s Kyle Dake received a hero’s welcome this past weekend.

Dake, who won his second Olympic bronze medal in freestyle wrestling in Paris, returned home to a special parade for his accomplishments on Saturday. The four-time World and NCAA Champion at Cornell University was thrilled to see so many fans and support turnout for the parade.

After winning his second medal in the Olympics earlier this month, the first being a bronze in Tokyo in 2021, Dake will have an important decision to make in the future. The 2028 summer games will be held in Los Angeles and Dake could once again be in the conversation to represent the United States on the freestyle wrestling team.

We asked Dake on Saturday how he feels about the potential of earning another spot on the team in four years.

“It’s hard to say no when it’s in your own backyard,” Dake said. “Going over to Tokyo and being in Paris, now it’s in the United states. There’s gonna be some soul searching and some long discussions with my wife and my coaches and mentors to decide what’s next for us.”

For Dake, the decision to compete for his home country is something he never takes for granted.

“I still feel like I’m one of the best in the world, if not the best in the world,” Dake added. “We’ll see. We’ll see if LA 2028 is a possibility or not.”
