STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Today is National Senior Citizen Day and a local nursing facility is focusing on health and activity.

The Corning Center hosted “care that moves you” day, which encourages getting seniors up and active.

“A lot of times we just sit, and it takes a little encouragement at times, especially when you’re not in the community to want to come out and join programs and getting to know other people when it’s like coming out and meeting a stranger so these fun events kind of encouraged them to come out. They don’t have to worry they don’t have to be scared. They just come out and have a good time,” said director of recreation Shannon Robertson.

Seniors were able to enjoy music, bubbles, and each other outside until it rained. The rain, however, didn’t stop the fun. Inside, residents put together different statues made of fruit and had a huge dance party.

This is the second year the Corning Center hosted the event. Organizers say they hope it will continue for years to come.
