Slammin Jammin BBQ gets back to cooking

CORNING, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Slammin Jammin BBQ reopened its doors on August 20, after more than two months of business interruption. The restaurant sustained damages in early June that forced the owner to close the establishment during the summer.

Owner Benjamin Lewis explained that a major water leakage started on the third floor bar that reached the lower basement kitchen. It hit the breaker box and started an electrical fire which was extinguished from the running water. The damage caused the restaurant to miss out on summer events and earnings through the closure.

“The water ran down the wall and hit the breaker box, and it started sparking, so just started shorting out, not necessarily a fire, just really sparking out and then put itself out with all the water,” said Lewis. “We missed out on a lot of the extra events that was going on around town, around the area, that we normally would do on a normal Sunday, on a summer day,” added Lewis. “We missed out on pretty much the earnings that we would make for our Winters.”

Lewis says he appreciates the phone calls he received from customers, which inspired him to get back to work.

One of the regular customers Barry Nicholson added, “I was a regular when I come in here every couple of weeks, my favorite is their ribs. Happy to see them back at it, been eating here for as long as they’ve been here before they were over across the river.”
