Local food pantry still recovering from July storm

LINDLEY, N.Y. ( WETM ) — The Pantry of Angels is still recovering from a food loss it sustained as a result of the power outage in mid-July. The pantry has spent more than $18,000 of grant money on food to give out to families in need.

The President and CEO of the pantry, Crystal McCannon says the pantry is still in need of food, funding, and volunteers to help during the weekly distributions. While in recovery mode, the pantry has been able to consistently serve more than 300 hundred families a week.

McCannon says she started seeing a shortage of volunteers before the power loss in July. She added that some volunteers are in the midst of recovering from the damages caused by Tropical Storm Debby.

Currently, there are more than ten volunteers at the pantry and McCannon hopes to see up to 40 people help out each week. The pantry has received donations from non-profit organizations and people in the New York Twin Tier region to help them through the recovery.
