CANISTEO, N.Y. ( WETM ) — The damages from Tropical Storm Debby have people still recovering after two weeks.

A homeowner on County Route 119 told 18 News his house was listed as condemned a few days after the flood. It was due to a structural instability where the foundation of his house had shifted nearly two inches attributed to the flood. He added that if the foundation of the house were to fall in, it could risk the house from collapsing into the basement.

According to the owner, water had come up from Colonel Bills Creek and created a channel that carried debris. A tree had wedged itself at the bottom of the house and the basement was flooded with almost six feet of water.

Another homeowner nearby added that he repaired his house’s underpinnings and backyard steps after the flood. He was able to remove mud from the driveway after a day and retrieved two of his lawnmowers after looking for them for four days. In addition, he mentioned that workers have been out on Colonel Bills Creek repairing and cleaning debris for over the past two weeks.
