WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WETM) – A familiar face made a special return at Watkins Glen International.

Friday, former longtime track president Michael Printup returned to WGI in his new role after 16 years in Watkins Glen. Printup is now the president of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), a position he’s held since roughly a month after he retired from WGI last summer.

This weekend, it’s the U.S. Vintage Race weekend with a jam-packed schedule full of special events honoring classic cars, teams and memories. For Printup, who now lives in South Carolina, coming back to his home track was unique but also thrilling to see so many great people.

“It’s fun being on the other side,” Printup said. “So now I’m a customer at Watkins Glen International. The new track president is doing a great job, Dawn Burlew as we all know, but it’s been fun being back.”

Printup continued to praise the true heart beat of the track, the staff who make everything go on a daily basis. It’s something he talks about fondly each time he talks about Watkins Glen.

“It’s been fun, it’s been a little eerie (being back), but it’s nice seeing all of the workers, they are all still here. It’s fun hanging out with them, too.”
