BATH, N.Y. ( WETM ) — The Town of Bath is getting more than $8 million in grants and financing from the state and federal governments to improve its water quality.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s Office announced that 17 municipalities across New York State, including the Town of Bath, are getting a total of $265 million in financial assistance to improve their water infrastructure, and as a result, protect public health. The municipalities are expected to save millions of dollars in interest payments thanks to the grants and financing.

“Improving our water infrastructure is essential for building safe and healthy New York communities,” said Hochul. “This financial assistance makes all the difference in being able to provide safe drinking water to New Yorkers, protect our natural resources, and ensure the projects are successful and affordable.”

Montour Falls awarded $175K in clean energy grant funding

The Town of Bath will receive several different tax-funded grants and types of financing so it can plan, design, and construct the Lake Salubria collection sewer extension. The town is getting a $2,580,413 grant and $1,124,789 in interest-free financing from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL); a $1,249,790 grant from New York State’s Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) program through the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act; and $3,798,175 in market-rate financing from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

The Lake Salubria project will see the replacement of onsite septic systems with a new sewer collection system. New York State Workforce Development says that this project will improve Lake Salubria’s water quality and protect the health and safety of Bath residents.

The Village of Bath was also included in the water infrastructure funding announcement and is one of 30 municipalities to receive a portion of $30 million for lead service line inventory projects. Hochul’s Office described these projects as a vital first step to replacing lead pipes.
