ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) — An Elmira man was sentenced this week to 15 years behind bars relating to an incident where he shot someone while driving a motorbike in November 2023 in downtown Elmira.

According to the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office, Reginald McBride was sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years parole on Monday, Aug. 26, for the charge of attempted murder in the second degree.

The sentencing stems from a shooting in the 200 block of West Water Street on November 27, 2023, where McBride was riding a motorized mini-bike and shot at a person on the sidewalk. The victim was hit and survived after they were taken to the hospital for treatment.

McBride fled the scene only to be arrested several days later on an assault and traffic violation where police said he had a suspended license and punched an officer in the face during his arrest.

McBride was held in jail until more information was collected for the shooting investigation. Police pinned McBride as the main suspect, charged him for the shooting, and indicted him on attempted murder and weapons charges in March .

More information about McBride came out that he was arrested in jail on felony assault charges after police said he assaulted two corrections officers in July. The Chemung County District Attorney’s Office said the investigation into the arrest is ongoing.
