Lockwood man arrested after incident involving machete

WAVERLY, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A Lockwood man has been arrested on several charges after an incident involving a machete that occurred yesterday in Waverly.

According to the Waverly Police Department, David R. Kithcart III, 32, was arrested on Monday, Aug. 26, on the charges of assault in the first degree (class B felony), resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and menacing in the second degree.

Kithcart’s arrest follows an investigation into a reported assault involving a machete that occurred at an apartment on Orchard Street in Waverly on the same day of his arrest around 6:49 a.m. Police say that Kithcart used a machete to harm an elderly man who sustained serious injuries as a result. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment but has since been released.

Immediately following the incident, police say that Kithcart left the scene and was found later that day. While being interviewed at the police station, police say that Kithcart became aggressive and had to be restrained by police.

Kithcart was arrested at 3 p.m. and was transported to CAP court in Tioga County, New York, and is being held while he awaits further court proceedings.
