Joe Gilbert Watch – a familiar face in Buffalo

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Check out the first edition of the season of 18 Sports’ Joe Gilbert Watch.

As the 2024 NFL regular season newly starts so does Horseheads native Joe Gilbert. After several years in Tampa Bay as the offensive line coach for the Buccaneers, Gilbert landed a new job with the Carolina Panthers. Gilbert won a Super Bowl in 2020 with the Bucs with his big offensive line blocking for future hall of famer Tom Brady.

Now the new offensive line coach of the Panthers, Gilbert saw a familiar face from the region last weekend. Gilbert is seen with Elmira’s own Luke Palmer in this photo during Carolina’s preseason game visit at the Buffalo Bills. Carolina won the game 31-26 but Palmer and Gilbert shared perhaps the biggest win of the day, a moment captured in time.

Carolina opens up the season at New Orleans on Sunday, September 8 at 1 pm on Fox. Gilbert is in his 13th season of NFL coaching after spending time as the offensive line coach of the Indianapolis Colts starting in 2012 and then in Tampa from 2019-23.

All season long 18 Sports will follow the progress of Carolina and Gilbert in the NFL.
