ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – One of the region’s top football talents will perform on the big stage.

Hornell’s Rayyan Buell, a grad student defensive lineman, will compete in his first game for the Colorado Buffalos Thursday night. Buell transferred from Ohio University and is thrilled to play for Colorado and hall of fame coach Deion Sanders, who’s in his second season as their head coach.

Colorado hosts North Dakota State at 8 pm Thursday and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Buell, the 2019 Hornell Sports Night Male MVP and all-state selection for Hornell High School, continues his football journey with one year left of college eligibility. Heading into the season, Buell is ranked as the 19th ranked best defensive lineman in the country by Sports Lists.

Buell appeared in 22 games over two years at Ohio University starting 13 games. He earned All-MAC Third Team honors and a career-high seven tackles against Northern Illinois with 4.5 sacks total in 2023.

18 Sports will continue to follow Buell’s progress at Colorado as the season marches forward.

A Hornell kid in liberal Boulder? That’s very sad.
