NORTH HORNELL, N.Y. ( WETM ) — North Hornell residents are invited to the village’s centennial celebration.

The Village of North Hornell turned 100 years old this year, and the village is celebrating with a free event on Saturday, Sept. 14. A parade will start at noon, and more festivities will follow in the Village Hall’s parking lot off of West Maplewood Avenue until 5:30 p.m.

After the parade (at about 1 p.m.) two local bands will start playing. Some seating will be available, but the village recommends for visitors to bring their own lawn chairs. The North Hornell Volunteer Fire Department will be selling food and drinks for a minimal charge during the event.

According to the Village of North Hornell’s website , 76 residents voted to incorporate the village in a garage on Seneca Road on June 14, 1924. At the time it was founded, the village had 233 residents living in about 75 homes. According to the 2020 census , North Hornell’s population grew to 732 people living in 340 households just under 100 years later.
