Edison football aims for big season

ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WETM) – The Edison Spartans are back, aiming for a big season in 8-man football.

Edison football is looking for a major rebound in 2024. Despite a 3-7 record last year, the Spartans are optimistic for their return to the gridiron. Not only is the team coming off of a season which saw them put up plenty of points, they are also returning a large number of key players.

Running behind 2 returners on the offensive line will be All-State honorable mention Greg Golden. Additionally, quarterback Andrew Slaven and wide receiver and wing back Reyes McAtee will be looking to follow up a big year on offense.

One name who will not be on the roster this season is the 2023 Edison football MVP Brycen Guinnip, who moved on to the college level, at St. Lawrence University. Despite the loss, Head Coach Kyle Erickson believes this year’s team chemistry will carry them a long way.

They all show up to watch film together, said Erickson. They all have each others backs. They’re just a hard working group of kids that got each others backs and hopefully that results in a successful season.”

Edison opens their season on Friday, September 13th at 7 p.m. when they travel to Wellsville. A full schedule is listed below and make sure to watch the 18 Sports Blitz Friday night’s at 11 all season long.
