( WETM ) — Local doctors from Guthrie shared their stories in the medical field to celebrate Women in Medicine Month. Guthrie is the only healthcare organization within the areas it serves listed in the Forbes Top 100 Employers for Women this year. It also ranks in the top 25 organizations for healthcare and social services.

Surgeon Dr. Jean Miner talked about how, in her seven years with Guthrie, she’s seen a growth of female medical providers in positions such as certified nurse midwives and nurse practitioners. She acknowledged that women have worked their way into serving different capacities aside from the medical field.

“We’ve seen women in our administrative, you know, fellowships, our administrative roles and responsibilities on the business side of things.” said Dr Miner. “So I definitely feel that we are welcoming people of all types, and, really making it nice for women to work here.”

Another doctor, Koryn Johnston, a family physician, mentioned that the executive leadership team and guiding council at Guthrie are now 50% occupied by women.

“When I was a little girl and wanted to be a doctor, I didn’t see a woman doctor. So even to be a family physician and see leaders who are females is inspiring,” said Johnston.
