Police: Two arrested after woman gives birth at home without seeking medical attention

BATH, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A man and woman from Bath have been arrested on endangerment charges after police say the woman gave birth in her home and did not seek medical attention.

According to the Village of Bath Police Department, Amber R. Mix, 30, and Roy C. Flansburg, 54, were arrested on Aug. 27 following an investigation into a report they had received on Aug. 7 about a woman who had potentially given birth in a home and had not been to a doctor’s office for a follow-up.

Following the report, police say they identified Mix and Flansburg and interviewed them about the allegations. Child Protective Service also arrived at the scene and took custody of the baby, who is currently safe and receiving care in a foster home.

Throughout the investigation, police say they determined that the woman had not seen a doctor throughout the pregnancy and that the baby had illegal narcotics in its system and was going through withdrawals. Mix was then taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree (class D felony). She was then taken to the Steuben County Jail and released at CAP court.

On the same day, Flansburg was also taken into custody and then released on an appearance ticket on the charge of endangering the welfare of a child (class A misdemeanor).
