Woodlawn Cemetery ‘Ghost Walk’ tickets now on sale

ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) — One of the area’s most loved events is returning for the fall season as the Chemung County Historical Society’s 18th annual Ghost Walk tickets are now on sale.

This year’s annual Ghost Walk will take place Oct. 18, 19, and 20, with several tours during the three days. The tour covers .38 of a mile and is pretty level, but the museum recommends guests bring good walking shoes.

Guests who buy tickets for the Friday and Saturday tours are asked to park at the Chemung County Historical Society at 415 E. Water St. and check in to receive a bus ticket. The bus will pick everyone up at the museum and take them to the cemetery where members of the Friends of Woodlawn will greet them.

Guests will be guided along the path and stop along the graves of some of Elmira’s most famous individuals while hearing stories from their ‘ghosts’ about their lives and history.

At the end of the tour, the bus will take all guests back to the museum.

On Sunday there will be no bus service as there are several shorter tours throughout the daylight hours to accommodate guests with needed assistance, strollers, or anyone who wants to see the tour during the day. A VIP tour is available on Sunday for those looking for extras.

Visitors on Sunday are asked to drive to Woodlawn Cemetery’s main gate at 1200 Walnut St. park outside the gate and look for the red check-in tent to meet their guide.

Tickets for the tours are $25 with VIP tickets costing $50 and can be obtained by calling 607-734-4167 during business hours or by visiting the Chemung County Historical Society’s website .
