    Former Johnson City Middle School principal arrested on rape charge in Bath

    Update: New York State Police have released more information about a former middle school principal who police said sexually assaulted a child back in 2022.

    According to police, On February 29, 2024, a law enforcement referral was brought to the attention of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation by the NYS Department of Social Services child abuse hotline.

    The report came from the FBI about an apparent sexual assault that took place and after an investigation, police claim that Erickson met with a 14-year-old victim in October 2022.

    After the months-long investigation, a warrant was filed for Erickson on Sept. 3 and issued on the 10th where he was arrested.

    Erickson was processed and taken to the Steuben County Jail where bail was set at $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond. Police said Erickson posted bail and was released.

    Erickson, the former Johnson City Middle School Principal, has already pleaded guilty in 2024 for attempting to lure a 16-year-old former student for sex in July of 2023. Reports state that Erickson spent a week in 2023 trying to get the student to have sex with him by using Snapchat. An agreement and location were made, but Erickson was arrested after being met by Broome County Sheriff’s Detectives at the scene.

    Documents said that Erickson was set to serve six months in jail followed by five years of probation.


    BATH, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A Chenango County man was arrested on Tuesday after a months-long investigation into what police said involved the rape of a child under 15 in Bath.

    According to New York State Police documents, 55-year-old Daniel Erickson of Greene, New York was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 10, on the charges of rape in the second degree of a victim under the age of 15, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

    Police said that an initial report of the incident was brought to police on February 29, 2024, with the arrest of Erickson coming more than six months later.

    The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and more information will be provided when it’s made available.
